Pleasure of Windsurfing
by Craig Dannerd

Windsurfing is an easy to learn, relaxing and beautiful
sport that lets you enjoy the true beauty of nature. Having
once learnt how to windsurf, you can do it anywhere where
there is water, wind, and your equipment. This is a solo
sport that people can take to when ever they wish to. If you
live close to the ocean, a lake or a big water body, this is
the sport for you to learn.

You're probably worried that you aren't strong enough in
your upper and lower body. Most people think about this, but
it actually doesn't have much to do with windsurfing. The
main technique you'll use is balance. A lot of beginners try
to make the equipment work their way, when what they really
need to do is just work with the wind.

To learn the basics correctly, it is better to take a few
lessons. These lessons shall teach you about the basics of
how to put your equipment together, what everything is used
for, some basic stances, and what to do in certain safety
situations. All these are important aspects to learn before
venturing to whiz with the wind. A few lessons would make
you confident to take to this sport on your own.

On your novice windsurfing expeditions, a soft breeze should
be plenty. If the wind is blowing too hard, you may not be
able to balance. Things could get dangerous if you don't
know the ropes. Before you start, also look to see if there
are other windsurfers out. If you see others, then you'll
know conditions must be good.

If something happens to you while you are out in the water a
friend can assist you or call for help. You may be wondering
if you need to wear a life jacket. Life jackets for boating
often don't offer enough free movement, but there are
personal flotation devices made for windsurfing that allow a
good range of motion.

If you are in trouble in the water, remember that your board
floats, so hang on to it. This is no substitute for a life
jacket of some sort since you may get separated from your
board. If you are in trouble you should also remember that
the international distress signal is waving both hands over
your head.

If you've never windsurfed, try renting equipment the first
few times you go. You can rent equipment for about $15 to
$20 for a couple of hours. If you don't have a good time or
have trouble learning then you aren't out a lot of money.
Purchasing equipment may cost as much as $1,000 so don't
leap into a decision. Be sure that you will want to windsurf
for a long time before you waste that much money.

Windsurfing is an easy sport to learn. A few lessons can
enrich your learning experience and place you on the steep
learning curve. Once learnt, this is an enjoyable sport that
can be practiced even when you are on your own.
